History

The Wassily Armchair, also known as the Model B3 chair, was designed by the influential Hungarian architect and designer Marcel Breuer in 1925-1926. While working at the Bauhaus, Breuer was inspired by the tubular steel frame of a bicycle and sought to incorporate the same lightweight yet strong material into his furniture designs. The chair was named after Breuer's contemporary, the famous painter Wassily Kandinsky, who admired the design and received one of the first prototypes for his personal use. The Wassily Armchair is celebrated as a pioneering piece of modernist furniture, encapsulating the Bauhaus philosophy of combining art with industry to create functional, yet aesthetically pleasing, objects.
